General descriptionThe course aims to increase students' ability in the main language skills, with special attention on improving students' communication skills for general and specific/professional purposes. It provides confidence in giving academic and professional presentations. Focussing on a communicative approach to learning, the course involves a rich variety of communicative activities such as pair work and group work as well as whole class discussions. In addition, the course introduces students to the basics of Business English. The course is geared to enrich students' vocabulary with the main focus on the terminology of computing and information technology. Attention is also paid to developing students' reading and listening skills in their specific fields by exploiting a rich variety of authentic texts. A grammar section (complicated verb forms, questions, the passive, conditionals) is included in the programme to sort out areas of error and to revise and consolidate grammar points at the level of students' language competence and needs. To ensure systematic language development, the syllabus also contains extensive practice of writing.
